Learning Through Play

Children learn best when they are playing, exploring, and having fun. Hands-on activities, music, art, movement, and outdoor play help children build confidence, friendships, and a love of learning.

Our Story

Founded in Oakland in February 2025 by Johnny “Mr. J” Johnson and his wife, Catrina, Little Sunflowers Academy grows from a family legacy of childcare, creativity, and community.

Mr. J grew up in his parents’ licensed family daycare. He later served as a teacher’s aide and Physical Education teacher, pursued a professional music career, and spent eight years helping his parents grow Boulevard Academy. Today, Johnny and Catrina bring that experience and care to a place where every child can bloom.

A Day at Little Sunflowers

Warm welcomes, hands-on exploration, nutritious meals and snacks, outdoor adventures, rest, and creative play make up our daily rhythm.

Tuition & Enrollment

Full-time, part-time, and drop-in schedules are available. Tuition includes meals and snacks, daily learning activities, and outdoor play. View our tuition PDF for current rates. Contact us to discuss your child’s age, schedule, and preferred start date.
